Intel's budget-conscious 40GB X25-V SSD appears online

Bluetooth SIG unveils low energy standard
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced this week it has formally adopted a new set of standards for low-powered devices. Unimaginatively named Bluetooth Low Energy, the new power sipping data transfer technology is part of the Bluetooth 4.0 Core Specification and follows the speed-centric version 3.0 of Bluetooth by just 10 months.

Mozilla rolls out security update, latest Firefox beta
Mozilla has released the fifth and reportedly final beta of Firefox 3.6 today as it moves closer to ship the final code by the end of the year. The latest package clears most of the remaining blocking bugs, totaling more than 120 new fixes since November's beta 4 release, among which is a couple that deal with an annoying scrolling bug and one that would expose passwords in plain text.

Intel confirms launch of new Core i3, i5 parts at CES
Intel has confirmed it will launch its first 32nm processors for desktops and laptops on January 7 at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. A total of 17 processors will be revealed in a variety of speeds, including new Core i3 and Core i5 parts that will join their older and more powerful Core i7 siblings.
