Microsoft licenses exFAT file system to Sony, others
Microsoft has announced that it is licensing its exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table) file system to third parties to spread its use in computers and other electronics. Panasonic to gain majority ownership of Sanyo in $4.6 billion transaction
Panasonic today announced it would acquire a majority ownership of Sanyo after revealing interest in the company last December. In the $4.6 billion deal, Panasonic will buy more than three billion shares from Sanyo's top three investors -- Goldman Sachs, Daiwa Securities SMBC, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking -- to gain a 50.2% stake.

MSI revamps X-Slim X600 with Core 2 Duo, Windows 7
MSI has unveiled an enhanced "Pro" edition of its X-Slim X600 ultrathin notebook. The X-Slim X600 Pro swaps the insipid Core 2 Solo SU 3500 1.4GHz to a more powerful Core 2 Duo processor (the model is unspecified). The Pro unit also drops Vista in favor of Windows 7 Home Premium, and appears to offer an optional (presumably external) DVD or Blu-ray drive.

ASRock launches two new Ion-based nettops
ASRock has added three more Ion powered systems to its growing 330-series of nettops. The ION 330-HT and 330HT-BD each use a dual-core Atom 330 processor clocked at 1.6GHz and are capable of playing back 1080p high definition video thanks to the built-in GPU from Nvidia, but the latter also throws in a Blu-ray drive.
