When it comes to video entertainment, my daughter still prefers wholesome sports, arcade and music-themed games. But many young children and teenagers are attracted to the over-the-top characters, graphics and game play found in action-thriller titles better suited for older players.

The Federal Trade Commission Sues Processor Manufacturer Intel
The Federal Trade Commission today sued Intel Corp., the world's leading computer chip maker, charging that the company has illegally used its dominant market position for a decade to stifle competition and strengthen its monopoly. In its complaint, the FTC alleges that Intel has waged a systematic campaign to shut out rivals' competing microchips by cutting off their access to the marketplace. In the process, Intel deprived consumers of choice and innovation in the microchips that comprise the computers' central processing unit, or CPU.

"Intel has engaged in a deliberate campaign to hamstring competitive threats to its monopoly," said Richard A. Feinstein, Director of the FTC's Bureau of Competition. "It's been running roughshod over the principles of fair play and the laws protecting competition on the merits. The Commission's action today seeks to remedy the damage that Intel has done to competition, innovation, and, ultimately, the American consumer."

EU Drops Microsoft Antitrust Charges
One of Microsoft's legal woes has now been wrapped up as the lawsuit brought against them for anti-trust practices has been dropped as users are able to replace Internet Explorers and PC's can ship without it being installed as well.

The European Union is dropping antitrust charges against Microsoft Corp. after the company agreed to give Windows users a choice of up to 12 other Web browsers. Microsoft will avoid further EU fines if it sticks by a binding deal with EU regulators to provide a pop-up screen that lets users replace Microsoft's Internet Explorer or add another browser such as Mozilla's Firefox, Google's Chrome or Opera.

China tightens grip with review of personal websites
China has banned individuals from registering internet domain names and launched a review of millions of existing personal websites in the toughest government censorship drive so far on the internet. As of Monday, people applying to register a domain name in China must present a company chop and a business licence, the China Internet Network Information Center, a government-backed body, said in a statement.
Internet service providers said they had started to review their client base for potentially fraudulent or harmful individually owned sites. The term harmful is often used by the government as a catch-all that covers everything from pornography to anti-state activity. As with many other issues considered sensitive by the government, individual domain name ownership has always been a legal grey area in China.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Takes Off Successfully For Its First Flight
Boeing's 787 Dreamliner just moments ago took off for the very first time after years of delays. The company's first new jetliner in almost 15 years, the plane is made of lightweight composite materials and supposed to reduce fuel costs by 20 percent.

The test aircraft completed its ground tests during the weekend, including a 150-mph dash down the runway at Everett's Paine Field during which its nose gear briefly lifted off the pavement. At 10:27 a.m. PT Tuesday, pilots Michael Carriker and Randall Neville took the 787 on a four-hour flight, beginning the extensive flight test program needed to obtain the plane's Federal Aviation Administration certification.

Australia To Filter Web Via IP's
In a move that is almost assuredly going to be followed by more and more countries if successful, Australia will be disallowing access to sites via IP filtering that house criminal content.

Australia intends to introduce filters which will ban access to websites containing criminal content. The banned sites will be selected by an independent classification body guided by complaints from the public, said Communications Minister Stephen Conroy. A seven month trial in conjunction with internet service providers found the technology behind the filter to be 100% effective. However, there has been opposition from some internet users.

Asetek Raises $8 Million - Credits Corsair's H50 CPU Cooler
Asetek announced today that it has raised an additional $8 million dollars in venture capital and appointed industry veteran Sam Szteinbaum as Chairman of the Board. The completion of this fund raising round caps a string of successes for Asetek in 2009. In June, Asetek partnered with Corsair to launch the Corsair branded, Asetek manufactured Hydro H50 CPU Cooler, bringing Asetek cooling technology back into the enthusiast market. In August, HP introduced Asetek supplied liquid cooling options to further enhance the quiet computing capability HP's new Z400 and Z800 workstations. And, in September, Dell introduced its new 100% liquid cooled line up of extreme performance Alienware Aurora and Area-51 desktop gaming machines. Legit Reviews reviewed the Corsair Hydro H50 CPU cooler back in July 2009 when it was first launched and found it a good value for the price!

"The successes Asetek has achieved in 2009 show clearly that the benefits of enhanced performance and improved acoustics enabled by the company's factory sealed liquid cooling systems are important differentiators for computer OEMs serious about addressing the performance segments of both the commercial and consumer PC markets," said Szteinbaum. "We are also gratified by how rapidly the enthusiast market has embraced our liquid cooling technology following the launch of the Corsair H50 CPU cooler," continued Szteinbaum. "Raising an additional $8 million in venture capital funding given the current difficult economic climate, demonstrates clearly the confidence our investors have in Asetek's management team and technology to continue to expand its market share in the workstation, gaming and performance segments of the PC market. I am excited to work with the management team at Asetek to help the company realize the full potential of liquid cooling in the market. "

Adobe Investigating Reader, Acrobat Potential Exploits
There have been various reports of exploits in Adobe Reader and Acrobat and although no specific details are given, I'd shy away from any Adobe documents received through questionable sites or unrecognized e-mail senders.
