Nvidia CEO Says 'No' to Intel-compatible Chip

Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang is adamantly denying any rumors or speculation that they may be looking to compete with Intel in the APU arena. They wish only to focus on the GPU market...at least for now. We'll see what the new year brings.

CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was asked about the possibility of Nvidia coming up with its own x86 (Intel-compatible) chip technology during in an interview Thursday, after the company reported strong third-quarter earnings. A recurring rumor has it that Nvidia is developing a chip that would be able to run the same software that runs on all Intel- and AMD-based PCs worldwide. "No," he said when asked if there was any truth to the rumor. "Nvidia's strategy is very, very clear. I'm very straightforward about it. Right now, more than ever, we have to focus on visual and parallel computing."

NVIDIA GT300 'Fermi' Graphics Card Delayed till April 2010

Nvidia's decision to push back the launch of its next-generation flagship GT300 (Fermi) GPU to the first quarter of fiscal 2011 (January 26-April 26, 2010) is unlikely to affect the company's performance for the remaining part of 2009, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

Nvidia will ramp Fermi for three different product lines: GeForce, Quadro and Tesla in the first quarter of fiscal 2011, said Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of Nvidia, during a recent conference call with financial analysts. Huang's statement means that Nvidia will only be able to start shipping its Fermi-based GPUs in 2010, instead of the end of 2009 as originally planned, the sources pointed out.

But less scrupulous advertisers lure players in with an offer to take a bogus survey or IQ test. Once it's completed they require a cell-phone number to send you the results. When you enter your cell number and create a password, you have unwittingly subscribed to a service you never wanted but will be billed for.

China bans physical punishment for Internet addicts

China's Ministry of Health has banned the use of physical punishment to wean teens off the net, months after a boy was beaten to death at an Internet boot camp. Chinese parents have turned to more than 200 organisations offering treatment for Internet "disorders" as the government increasingly warns of unhealthy Internet habits among the young. he death of 15-year-old Deng Senshan, just hours after he checked into an Internet bootcamp in the southwestern Guangxi region in early August, caused a media storm in China.

When intervening to prevent improper use of the Internet, we should ... strictly prohibit restriction of personal freedom and physical punishments," the ministry said in a draft guideline for Internet use by minors, posted on its website. It appeared to have dropped the term "Internet addiction", widely used in earlier ministry documents, perhaps in a bid to calm worried parents who fuelled a mushrooming business of harsh camps to prevent teens from spending hours online.
