Nokia Ships E72 Smartphone For Symbian S60 Loyalists
It's somewhat hard to believe that Nokia's E72 smartphone actually launched way back in June, and trust us, a lot has happened in the mobile world since then. Even Nokia itself has shown off a new smartphone OS (Maemo 5), but the tried and true Symbian S60 is powering this one. The E72 is a slim, broad candybar-styled smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard that's always out in the open. According to Nokia, the wait to snag one has finally ended--if anyone was still waiting around for it, that is. This phone

FLO TV Personal Television Ships For $250 + Monthly Fees: Any Takers?
Mobile TV has had a tough go at it in America. A few of the major carriers offer TV services on select smartphones, but the $10+ per month charge usually turns people off. Amazingly, far smaller of a fight has been put up for the insane rates carriers charge for texting, but we suppose that's the true measure of supply in this whole "supply and demand" thing that our 5th grade teacher attempted to explain to us. Today, the FLO TV Personal Television is hitting retail stores and web sites, though only time will

Samsung Behold II Brings Even More Android To T-Mobile USA
If AT&T is your home for the iPhone, Sprint is your home for webOS devices and Verizon is your home for the Motorola Droid, we guess T-Mobile USA is the home for all other Android phones. Ever since the G1 launched on the carrier last year, it seems like a never-ending flow of Android handsets have found their way onto America's second-largest GSM operator. The next handset in line for deployment is the Samsung Behold II, which bills itself as a "multimedia powerhouse." The phone features a full 3.2" touch-screen

Verizon Wireless Raises Early Termination Fees
Rumors surrounding Verizon Wireless' Early Termination Fees (EFTs) have been flying around in recent days. Over the weekend, Verizon officially upped the fee for cancelling your contract early from $175 to $350. Under the new fee schedule, Verizon gives you a bit of a break by reducing the fee by a mere $10 per month for the life of the contract. Of course, that still leaves you with a $120 EFT 23 months into a 24-month deal. The new fee applies to "advanced devices." Verizon provides a full list of these devices,

Windows Vista Users Jump To 7 While XP Users Lag
Windows 7 is picking up market share quickly (in IT terms). However, much of that is at the expense of Windows Vista, as XP users are seemingly staying put, according to a (very) recent InfoWorld survey. As tracked by InfoWorld's Windows Pulse service, Windows 7 already has more than 4 percent of the market, and that's after less than a month of general availability after its Oct. 22nd release. However, according to the survey, Windows XP's share hasn't changed during this period. It's still holding at 64 percent.

Fusion-io ioXtreme PCI Express SSD, Tested and Burned In
The first time we looked at Fusion-io's ioDrive product, we offered the notion that it was a "disruptive technology", something that had the potential to set the industry on its ear. Fusion-io ioXtreme PCI Express SSD, Tested and Burned In
The first time we looked at Fusion-io's ioDrive product, we offered the notion that it was a "disruptive technology", something that had the potential to set the industry on its ear.آ Of course the ioDrive is an enterprise-class product that showed the significant potential of PCI Express direct-attached SSD storage but its cost structure was such that the mainstream market couldn't possibly even begin to justify it, no matter what the upside performance looked like.آ And then of course we heard of Fusion-io's more consumer-targeted play, the ioXtreme, which debuted at E3 this past summer. Obviously, E3 is a consumer electronics entertainment venue so it became abundantly clear that Fusion-io wasn't only productizing their technology for the enterprise space but for the enthusiast, workstation professional and power user as well.آ
Today we've got a full deep-dive look at Fusion-io's ioXtreme PCI Express Solid State Drive.آ Weighing in at a pricey $899 for 80GB (standard card), it's definitely still a high ticket item but it's at least approachable now, for those of you that have the need for speed as they say.آ Just how much speed?آ And what about RAIDing a couple of these bad boys together?آ We aim to quantify that for you, as well as a couple of the product's early release caveats, in the pages ahead.

Meanwhile, Vista, after three years, has only 30% of the market, while among new users registering for the InfoWorld Windows Pulse service, 7 is already up to 10 percent.

While obviously still too early to tell, InfoWorld also sees a direct correlation between the 7 uptake and a Vista downturn. Seemingly, for every percentage point 7 rises, Vista drops 1 percent.

Obviously, it's still very early. Excitement has led, as NPD noted, to a 234 percent increase in Windows 7 retail box sales when compared to Vista's opening days.

The question is, how much of this is based on pent up demand for something better than Windows 7, or the promotional pricing that Microsoft used for early pre-orders?آ It would not be surprising to see Windows 7 sales drop off as the early adopters fade.

Additionally, XP users can't do an in-place upgrade to Windows 7.آ Rather, they have to do a clean install.آ While many recommend a clean install anyway, plenty of end users would eschew this because of the effort involved in re-installing applications.

Additionally, IT departments will take some time before they upgrade any XP machines to 7 (if they do).آ Many skipped Vista.

Finally, there are plenty of underpowered XP machines out there, which would not run Windows 7 effectively.آ The easiest way to get Windows 7 if you have an XP PC is to get a new box, and many will probably simply opt for this.

Windows 7 / Server 2008 Remote Crash Exploit

It looks like Microsoft's put a lot of new SMB bugs in their recent OS's. This is the second way we've seen to remotely crash a machine by sending it bad SMB packets.

Proof of concept/exploit code you can paste write into Python is located here: http://g-laurent.blogspot.com/2009/11/windows-7-server-2008r2-remote-kernel.html

This SMB bug is worse than the first one that was found; With this bug, you don't get a telling BSOD that you can ctrl-alt-del from (and which might have info letting you known the system was crashed by the SMB exploit). This bug simply hangs the machine hard with no indication of what happened and you have to punch the power/reset button.

Worse... there's apparently a way to use it in conjunction with IE to circumvent firewalls. So, if you're lured to click on a link and it hangs your machine - it might be some jerk messing with you. No one's found a way to use either of these SMB bugs to remotely exploit code yet, so at least you can't get a worm in this manner, yet.

Microsoft reportedly isn't planning on fixing this until SP1.
