Intel beats third quarter earnings forecasts
Intel did well for itself in the third quarter, outpacing analyst's profit and revenue forecasts -- though, figures were still down from a year ago. The chipmaker posted net income of $1.9 billion on revenue of $9.4 billion during the third quarter, which is up 73% and 18% from the previous quarter, but down 15% and 7.8% year-over-year.

Gmail has introduced a new Labs feature that may spare you the embarrassment of sending a message to the wrong contact. Fittingly named "Got the wrong Bob?" the new Labs item tries to identify when you've accidentally included the wrong person in a group email, and notifies you prior to sending the message.

Nokia, AT&T offer $299 Booklet 3G
As expected, Nokia has worked out an arrangement with AT&T to sell its Booklet 3G for $300 when customers sign up for a two-year contract. The subsidy effectively brings the netbook's price down from $600 on the carrier-free option, but ties users to a data plan that costs about $60 a month.

Acer intros its first Windows 7 netbook, Aspire One D250
Acer announced this morning that it will offer Windows 7 Starter edition on one of its Aspire One netbooks. The Aspire One D250 has a 10.1" LED-backlit display -- the same as current Aspire One units, except for the higher 1,280 x 720 resolution. The device features a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor and GMA 950 graphics chipset, 2GB of RAM and a 5400RPM 160GB HDD.

Firefox 3.6 can detect computer orientation
The next iteration of Firefox, version 3.6, will be able to detect the orientation of laptops and mobile devices that come loaded with accelerometers. Mozilla evangelist Christopher Blizzard announced the new feature on a blog post yesterday and offered a short video of the technology in action.
