NVIDIA GT300 ''Fermi'' Detailed
NVIDIA's upcoming flagship graphics processor is going by a lot of codenames. While some call it the GF100, others GT300 (based on the present nomenclature), what is certain that the NVIDIA has given the architecture an internal name of "Fermi", after the Italian physicist Enrico Fermi, the inventor of the nuclear reactor. It doesn't come as a surprise, that the codename of the board itself is going to be called "reactor", according to some sources.
Based on information gathered so far about GT300/Fermi, here's what's packed into it:
- Transistor count of over 3 billion
- Built on the 40 nm TSMC process
- 512 shader processors (which NVIDIA may refer to as "CUDA cores")
- 32 cores per core cluster
- 384-bit GDDR5 memory interface
- 1 MB L1 cache memory, 768 KB L2 unified cache memory
- Up to 6 GB of total memory, 1.5 GB can be expected for the consumer graphics variant
- Half Speed IEEE 754 Double Precision floating point
- Native support for execution of C (CUDA), C++, Fortran, support for DirectCompute 11, DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1, and OpenCL

Zotac Designs Shorter GeForce GTX 260 Accelerator
Zotac's design team is at it again, releasing a newer graphics card design based on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 GPU. This one, concentrates on making the card shorter, lengthwise. The shorter graphics card also makes do with just one 8-pin PCI-Express power connector. The PCB length is lopped from the typical 26.5 cm to 23 cm, making it easier to fin in smaller cases. With the PCB compact, several heat-producing components are moved closer to each other, making it easier to cool with a smaller common cooler base plate.

(PR) AMD Announces Open Physics Initiative for New Levels of Realism to Gaming, Simulation
AMD and Pixelux Entertainment announced a joint development agreement that is part of the AMD effort to greatly expand the use of real-time physics with graphics through the open source Bullet Physics engine. By encouraging development of physics middleware built around OpenCL and Bullet Physics, AMD and Pixelux offer a route toward physics simulation that spans game consoles, PCs and other hardware platforms. The latest graphics technologies, like the ATI Radeon HD 5800 series of GPUs, offer incredible visual fidelity and high performance physics simulation by taking the next step in realistically animating how rendered game objects move, deform and break.
"Proprietary physics solutions divide consumers and ISVs, while stifling true innovation; our competitors even develop code that they themselves admit will not work on hardware other than theirs," said Eric Demers, chief technology officer for graphics at AMD. "By working with Pixelux and others to enable open support of physics on OpenCL and DirectX 11 capable devices we are taking the exact opposite approach."

ASUS Readies P7P55 LX Motherboard
ASUS is readying its most affordable ATX motherboard based on the Intel P55 chipset yet, the P7P55 LX. Supporting socket LGA 1156 processors, the P7P55 LX is intended to be priced even lower than the P7P55D LE (under 100 EUR). Everything about this board is thin and lite: narrower PCB, solid-state capacitors confined only to important VRM circuits, 5 phase CPU power circuit, and other basic features. The product however, doesn't leave out some ASUS exclusives such as MemOK, ExpressGate, and TurboV.
For expansion, there's one PCI-Express 2.0 x16, one PCI-E x16 (electrical x4), two PCI-E x1, and three PCI. All six SATA 3 Gbps ports are assigned as internal ports. An additional controller provides an IDE connector. 8-channel audio with optical SPDIF output, and gigabit Ethernet make for the rest of the feature-set. Expect the board to be out soon.
