LG Electronics Unveils its First ION Nettop
LG Electronics unveiled the company's first nettop, based on the NVIDIA ION platform. Measuring roughly 1l in volume, the LG XPION X30 resembles similar offerings from Medion, Gateway, and Acer. The unit weighs under 1.1 kg (2.42 lbs). Under its hood is an Intel Atom 230 single-core processor running at 1.6 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics integrated into the ION chipset, 2 GB of memory, and 250 GB storage. It comes with Windows Vista Home Basic pre-loaded and comes with an attachment that lets the unit latch onto some monitors probably using the VESA wall-mount, so it could be neatly tucked away to save space. It is expected to hit retail tomorrow.

DirectX 11 Won't Define GPU Sales: NVIDIA
"DirectX 11 by itself is not going be the defining reason to buy a new GPU. It will be one of the reasons." This coming from the same company that a few years ago said that there was every reason to opt for a DirectX 10 compliant graphics card, to complete the Windows Vista experience, at a time when it was the first and only company to be out with compliant hardware. In the wake of rival AMD's ambitious Evergreen family of DirectX 11 compliant graphics cards being released, NVIDIA made it a point to tell the press that the development shouldn't really change anything in the industry.
Speaking at the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference, NVIDIA's VP of investor relations said “DirectX 11 by itself is not going be the defining reason to buy a new GPU. It will be one of the reasons. This is why Microsoft is in work with the industry to allow more freedom and more creativity in how you build content, which is always good, and the new features in DirectX 11 are going to allow people to do that. But that no longer is the only reason, we believe, consumers would want to invest in a GPU.”

(PR) Eurocom Launches World's First i7 Clarksfield Based High-End Notebooks
Eurocom, the world's leading developer of highly personalized, high-performance notebook PCs and LCD PCs, plans to launch its new mobile notebook line-up based on Intel Calpella in early October. The Calpella platform is based on Clarksfield processors with four cores that will be marketed by Intel under Core i7 trademark as well code-named Ibex Peak-M core logic that will be branded as Intel PM55.
There will be two notebook models available: 15.6-inch HD EUROCOM W860CU Cougar and 17.3-inch W870CU Cheetah based on Intel i7 Mobile processors, Intel PM55 chipset, DDR3-1333 Memory, NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 2x0M or GTX 3x0M series upgradeable MXM 3.0 Type B VGA technology.

Intel Pentium E6700 Clocked at 3.43 GHz Surfaces
Intel has yet another high-value dual-core processor in the making, this one probably specific to the Chinese market again (following Pentium E6500K). While the new Pentium Dual Core E6700 does not come with an unlocked bus multiplier, it does come with its bus multiplier two notches higher, at 13.0x. With its bus speed of 266 MHz, it manages a stock clock speed of 3.46 GHz. Based on the 45 nm Wolfdale-2M core, the chip has an L2 cache of 2 MB and FSB of 1066 MHz. Coolaler used an engineering sample achieve an overclocking feat of 5.93 GHz (456.4 MHz x 13 @ 2.016 V) on a fairly mainstream Gigabyte GA-EP45 UD3L motherboard with 4.00 GB DDR2 memory (validation here). Sapphire HD 4860 Platinum Pictured
Unbeknownst to other markets, ATI AIB partners have been working on full-fledged lineups of graphics cards based on the Radeon HD 4860 GPU, a brand that seems to be specific to the Chinese market. Sapphire developed a new premium offering based on the GPU, called Sapphire HD 4860 Platinum, that intends to be a cut above the rest with its cooling and better power stability. The card in many respects looks similar to "Vapor-X" branded offerings based on other GPUs, by Sapphire.
The card sports a dual-slot design with a custom PCB by Sapphire. The PCB includes a 5+2 phase VRM which draws power from two 6-pin PCI-E connectors. The RV790-based Radeon HD 4860 GPU has 640 stream processors, and has core/memory clock-speeds of 700/750 MHz. With its 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, it connects to 512 MB of memory. The GPU is cooled by a robust heatpipe-fin array based GPU cooler. On the connectivity front, the card provides DVI-D, HDMI, and DisplayPort. It is available for RMB 799 (US $117) in China. I-O Data Unveils HDL-C Series LAN-Disks
I-O Data Japan today released the elegant-looking HDL-C "LAN-disk". Simply put, this is a NAS device with only one fixed hard drive. It measures 42(W)أ—195(D)أ—120(H) mm, and weighs 1.5 kg with its drive. Its connectivity is care of 1000BASE-T/100BASE-TX/10BASE-T Ethernet, and USB 2.0. It comes with the hard drive pre-installed, and is available in capacities of 500 GB, 1 TB and 1.5 TB. The three are priced at 13,600 JPY, 18,900 JPY, and 24,200 JPY respectively. It will debut in Japan, next month.

MSI's AMD Athlon Neo powered U210 ultra-portable reached retail today. While not intended to be a ULPC, this 12.1-inch notebook sells for US $430. It features a 1366 x 768 pixel 12.1 inch screen, and is powered by a 1.6 GHz Athlon Neo MV-40 processor aided by 2 GB of memory, ATI Radeon X1250 integrated graphics, 250 GB of storage, and a 4-in-1 media card reader.
