Water-Cooled GTX 295 in Works by EVGA, Zotac
January 8 saw NVIDIA reclaim the performance crown from arch-rival AMD/ATI with the introduction of its dual-GPU GeForce GTX 295 graphics accelerator. The company used two of its 55nm G200 graphics cores is building this accelerator. Maintaining a dual-slot construction with its reference design, the card provides a fair bit of overclocking on its stock cooler. EVGA and Zotac, two of NVIDIA's largest add-in card partners, are reportedly planning water-cooled versions of this accelerator.
It is not clear at this point if the accelerators come in the form of merely cards with factory-fitted water-blocks, or if they come equipped with dedicated water-cooling loops. The two manufacturers will take advantage of the superior cooling system to provide high, non-reference clock-speeds to the cards' GPUs and memory. The new SKUs are likely to surface at the upcoming CeBIT event held in Hannover, Germany.

NVIDIA Likely to Start 40nm GPU Conquest with GT218
As the industry moves closer to implementation of the 40nm silicon technology on graphics processors, some of the most complex electronic devices, both AMD and NVIDIA have their offerings in the works. While AMD already has prototypes taped out, NVIDIA seems to be taking its time, perhaps to perfect its products.
The green camp, as Hardware-Infos finds out, is likely to start its 40nm lineup with the GT218 graphics processor. With NVIDIA's internal coding scheme, the GT218 is an entry-level GPU. In its generation hierarchy, would be the GT215, GT216 (mainstream) and GT212 (high-end). The GT218 will succeed the G98 GPU that went into making the GeForce 9300 series. It will have 32 stream processors, 8 texture memory units, and 4 raster operations pipelines. It will continue to have a 64-bit wide memory bus. Despite the increase in transistor counts, the GPU ends up with a lower TDP, expected to be around 22W, as against the roughly 30W for the G98. The GT218 is slated for April, later this year.

I-O Data Out With New Netbook-Friendly DVD Burner
Specialists with external data storage, I-O Data has come up with a new ultra-slim external DVD-burner it claims to be netbook friendly, given that most netbooks rely on external optical drives. The new drive (model: DVRP-U8XLE2) is 21mm thick and comes with a square profile. The drive roughly measures up to be the size of a portable CD player. It burns dual-layer DVDs at 6X speeds, DVD-R, DVD+R at 8X speeds. It sports a standard USB 2.0 interface. Interestingly, its makers claim this drive to perform identically, an in at its full operational write speeds on any netbook.

Samsung EcoGreen F2 1.5TB HDD Tested
Korean silicon giant Samsung is ready with its 1.5TB high-capacity desktop hard drive, under the EcoGreen F2 series. The drive is labeled HD154UI. With this drive Samsung looks to focus on storage rather than performance, giving this drive a spindle speed of 5400 rpm, aided by a 32MB cache. This is where the company gets to brandish energy-efficiency, thus living up to its EcoGreen brand name.
Despite these specifications, the drive manages a decent set of scores on the HD Tune benchmark, churning out read/write speeds of around 105 MB/s sequential, and around 48/72 MB/s random access. It has a rated average seek-time of 8.9ms. This Samsung drive comes in the standard 3.5" form-factor. It uses the standard SATA II interface. The drive features some proprietary acoustic management features such as SilentSeek and NoiseGuard. It will be available in Japan later this week at a price of آ¥11,580 (around US $130).

ASUS M4A79T Deluxe Pictured
Keeping up with the standards, ASUS is introducing its fleet of motherboards for the AMD AM3 socket. Following the introduction of the M4A79 Deluxe, the company has topped up the M4A series with a new DDR3-supportive model: the M4A79T Deluxe. The "T" in the model name indicates DDR3, and is the only pointer on the product package indicating DDR3 support. It is based on the AMD 790FX + SB750 chipset. It supports the upcoming AM3 socket processors.
The board itself has an identical layout to the M4A79 Deluxe, except for the four DDR3 DIMM slots colour-coded in orange and black, to keep up with the coding scheme used by ASUS in several of its motherboards with DDR3 support. It supports up to 16 GB of DDR3-1333 MHz memory (DDR3-1600 by overclocking). Featuring as many as four PCI-Express x16 (electrically x8 with all slots populated), it supports 4-way ATI CrossFireX. The SB750 provides six SATAII internal ports and an eSATA port. Other features are standard issues for this motherboard: 8-channel audio with optical and co-axial SPDIF connectivity, gigabit Ethernet, and Firewire. With the M4A79 Deluxe selling for US $199 in the US, one can expect this motherboard to be priced in that range, with a little premium charged for its DDR3 support.
