Intel Core i7 and GeForce GTX 295 Break the 3DMark Vantage 40k Performance Barrier
You know we always try to share with you all these crazy world records and overclocking attempts that happen in a global scale, and today we have one more to show. Overclockers Vince "k|ngp|n" Lucido and Peter Tan "Shamino" have united to break the 40k barrier in 3DMark Vantage, an astonishing accomplishment. Except these two man, behind this record hides an Intel X58 platform. The motherboard used was a standard EVGA X58 SLI running BIOS SZ1C combined with an LN2 cooled Core i7 965 at 5110MHz (even running on higher core speeds as you'll see down below). Memory used was a Kingston 3GB HyperX DDR3 2000MHz CL9 kit clocked at 1080MHz with timings of CL8-7-7-21. Finally, the GPUs of choice were two volt-modded EVGA GTX 295+ working in Quad-SLI, cooled by LN2 again. The new official 3DMark Vantage world record was set for the Performance segment with a properly calculated score of P40398 marks. Western Digital Ups Platter Density, to Launch 2 TB HDD
Western Digital (WD), seems to have matched rival Seagate's per-platter storage density mark, with its 500GB platter technology. What's more, WD is planning to release a quad-platter hard drive totaling two terabytes of unformatted capacity before Seagate could achieve that feat with its Barracuda 7200.12 series. Seagate was the first to come out with a 1.5TB hard drive with four 375GB platters.
The 2TB hard drive by WD (model: WD20EADS) lists under the company's Caviar Green series. It makes use of a 32 MB cache. Its access time is rated at 8.9ms, though its spindle speed is variable, between 5400 and 7200 rpm. The variable speed brings in power savings. It uses the standard SATA II interface. European online retailer Czech Computer started listing the drive, though its price isn't announced just as yet.

Intel to Take on Athlon Neo with New Low-Power Mobile CPUs
Currently leading AMD in every market-segment of CPUs, Intel is planning to take on the Athlon Neo series CPUs, a set of low-wattage CPUs specifically designed for the ultrathin form-factor notebooks. Intel's Athlon Neo competitor would take shape from its current ultra low-voltage (ULV) processors that feature in products such as the Apple Macbook Air.
The processors will use the 22 sq mm packaging. Intel's lineup is expected to include ULV chips with rated TDPs as low as 10W, against AMD's Athlon Neo chips offering rated TDPs as low as 15W. There is no word on the availability of these chips, although with Athlon Neo based products coming out only in Q2 2009, that still leaves Intel at least three months to prepare its new ULV chips.
