Windows 7 Beta Suffers from MP3 Corruption Bug Before it Even Reaches the Public
The first official public beta of Windows 7 launches today (Build 7000), but already there is a serious bug which can corrupt your mp3 files. Although it will not render them unplayable, it has the potential to cut off the first 2 or 3 seconds of the mp3 recording. According to a poster on the Neowin.net forums:
The problem only happens when you edit metadata on a certain class of MP3 file (a file with a header larger than 16KB). When the new metadata is written, it corrupts the beginning of the file. This can happen either when you edit the metadata from inside WMP or Explorer, or it can happen if you have WMP set to automatically fill in missing metadata using the online service and add the MP3 to your library. This problem is only present in the recently leaked build (7000)

To protect your MP3 files
1. Before you install this Beta release, back up all MP3 files that might be accessed by the computer, including those on removable media or network shares.
2. Install the Beta release of Windows 7; download and install the Update to Windows 7 Beta (KB961367) located on this page.
Although there is no official support page for KB961367 yet, Microsoft have the updates ready for download.

Samsung Electronics America, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, today introduced an innovative PC-over-IP (PCoIP) display solution in conjunction with Teradici Corporation. Microsoft Makes First Windows 7 Beta Public
Microsoft made the first beta release of its upcoming client operating system, Windows 7 (officially) public. While the OS has been open for downloads for MSDN and TechNet subscribers for the past two days, the company made it public in essence making it open for everyone to download it starting today.
Users will be able to download the Windows 7 Beta 1 DVD image file (.iso) from the official Windows 7 page on the company website here. The disk image file weighs 2.7 GB (3.15 GB for the 64-bit version). Unlike with earlier beta versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 beta isn't available in a CD image format. "I really believe that Windows 7 is the best operating system we've ever developed," said Steve Ballmer, chief executive of Microsoft. "I encourage you all to get out and download it" he added.

Sparkle Adds 1GB GeForce 9600 GSO to its Lineup
As NVIDIA celebrates the launch of its two new flagship products: the GeForce GTX 295 and GeForce GTX 285, Sparkle made an addition to its mainstream graphics lineup with a 1 GB variant its GeForce 9600 GSO accelerator (model: SX96SO1024D3-HM). MSI Starts off With Overclocked GeForce GTX 285
Graphics card manufacturers either release entire lineups of products based on a particular GPU on one go, comprising of a base-model sticking to the GPU vendors' reference specifications, all the way up to factory-overclocked cards, or they release base-models first and follow it up with overclocked variants later. MSI did the opposite, with starting its GeForce GTX 285 lineup with a "base-model" that doesn't adhere to reference clock speeds by NVIDIA, but instead, comes slightly overclocked.
The MSI GeForce GTX 285 (model: N285GTX-T2D1G-OC), the company's first entry to its N285GTX series, comes with clock speeds of 680 MHz (core), 1476 MHz (shader) and 2484 MHz (memory). These, against the NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 680/1476/1998 MHz. The GeForce GTX 285, as we know, is based on the G200b graphics processor. It is built on the 55nm manufacturing node of TSMC. It features 240 stream processors and 1 GB of GDDR3 memory across a 512-bit wide memory bus. The MSI N285GTX-T2D1G-OC should make it by January 15.

ASUS Preparing Eight New AMD Motherboards Under the M4A, M4N Series
ASUS is reportedly preparing eight new motherboards based on the AM3/AM2+ sockets, ready for AMD's 45nm desktop CPUs. While two of these have already caught the media's attention, there are more. Tabled below are the eight motherboards based on the AMD 7-series chipsets, the ASUS M4A series, and NVIDIA nForce 700 series (and 900 series chipsets, if the "980a SLI" reference in the table isn't a typo), the ASUS M4N series.
Getting into some details, the M4A79-T is the high-end AMD CrossFireX supportive platform based on the AMD 790FX + SB750 chipset, that supports dual-channel DDR3-1600 (OC) memory. It will feature four PCI-Express x16 slots. The M4A79 Deluxe supports DDR2 memory. It is known that the upcoming AM3 socket Phenom II processors will be backwards compatible with AM2+ (DDR2) platforms. The M4A78T-E is the based on the AMD 790GX + SB750 chipset, it supports DDR3. The M4A78-E supports DDR2, while being based on the same chipset. The M4N series motherboards, start from the 3-way SLI supportive M4N82 Deluxe based on the 780a/980a SLI chipset, again it isn't known if the chart sourced has a typo. There is the M4N72-E based on the nForce 750a SLI, and finally the M4N78 Pro. All the M4N motherboards support DDR2 memory.
