ASUS Maximus II Gene Motherboard ReviewAlthough the Core i7 and X58 combo is a proven performance leader, there are still plenty of Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPUs out there in the wild. The Core 2 is still a very capable processor with many models costing less than half the price the cheapest Core i7 processor, the Core i7 920. Thus, systems based around the P45 chipset are still a viable option for getting good, if not great, performance at a vastly more affordable price. Up until now, when users thought of a micro-ATX board, they typically expect

RadioShack To Run Target's Mobile Phone OperationsThe Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal is reporting that Target plans to outsource its mobile phone operation to RadioShack subsidiary Kiosk Operations. Earlier this month, the subsidiary opened kiosks in about 100 Target stores in California, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Texas, and Washington. The partners plans to roll out the kiosks to all 1,700 Target stores sometime next year. You'll be able to distinguish the Kiosk Operations employees from Target sales associates by their black shirts,

ASUS Xtreme Contest Rejected Conceptsgibbersome's rejected La-Z-Boy concept in the main thread gave me the idea to start this one.
It's a shame that the rejected concepts won't all be posted, rejects and their reasons are just as interesting to me as the winning ideas.
Here's a few of my rejected case mod concepts to start, feel free to post your own rejects, shows you're giving this a lot of thought.
Also, it will be good for a laugh.

“Hey, I’ve been wanting to build an i7 860 system!”
I think I’m not alone on that score, and I’ve been doing my homework.
MAKING THE CASE FOR CASES
My first reaction at the name of the ASUS Xtreme Design contest was to picture whimsical “extreme” computer case modification designs so I immediately went around the apartment looking for suitable candidates. This is what I came up with:
http://www.eunoia.com/1-1.jpg
- Circa 1950's McBrine Leather Suitcase
Pros: Unique retro charm, portable?
Cons: Challenging case mod (no rigid surfaces,) horizontal axis perpendicular to habitual plane, poor air flow

- 1993 Marshall Valvestate 8080
Pros: Rocks! Iconic design, reasonable size, open back assures great airflow
Cons: tough to sacrifice: took forever and a gallon of pot spray to clean up, tone monster

- Odyssey Krom Diamondplate Record Case
Pros: Modern design, very portable, even has a luggage handle and wheels
Cons: Smallish, no airflow, lot of work
http://www.eunoia.com/1-5.jpg
- Army Foot Locker
Pros: Huge, actual rust takes no backseat to artificial rust which is all the rage with the mod wizards at mnpctech.com
Cons: Insanely unweildy, even more impractical than previous ideas
- Not pictured
Forest Air 10200 BTU Horizontal Air Conditioner
Pros: Huge, interesting cooling solution
Cons: Costly, likely to get bogged down in focusing on cooling, tough to sacrifice: may actually need in summertime for intended purpose, loud
- Not pictured
Stainless steel kitchen sink
Pros: heat rises, I could flip this over and make a chimney
Cons: landlord would freak

- Circa 1970's Thermos Cooler
Pros: Intriguing design, portable, ample size, interesting cooling possibilities, drain at bottom right for easy clean-up after computer meltdowns, beer tie-in a sure-fire hit at CES 2010.
Cons: Nuh-uh green, tough to sacrifice: does good job keeping beer cold and useful conversation starter at picnics
This one had the best potential of stuff lying around the house. Here are some preliminary mockups, emphasis on “mock”.

This is the closest I came to going for it. The idea bogs down when remembering that in the real world, things have to be to scale. I’m missing a bit of room for that humungoid rad, and the air flow and cooling is bound to be a major problem the way this is set up. With the performance components provided, this has to be functional.
A crazy case mod is fun to think about, but with limited time to execute, I'm still looking for something more feasible.
That dream Pikachu case with eyes that shoot Nerf rockets will just have to wait for another build.
