Batmangate: AMD vs. NVIDIA vs. Eidos fight analyzed

There have been a lot of column inches afforded anti-aliasing (or the lack thereof in-game on AMD hardware) in Batman: Arkham Asylum of late, but if you're found yourself confused by who said what, who did what to whom, and which bit of mud was slung in a particular direction, then Bright Side of News now has a comprehensive article summing up the whole "Batmangate" saga from a variety of different angles, making for a must-read article if you like your graphics IHV soap operas.

What got AMD seriously aggravated was the fact that the first step of this code is done on all AMD hardware: "'Amusingly', it turns out that the first step is done for all hardware (even ours) whether AA is enabled or not!آ So it turns out that NVidia's code for adding support for AA is running on our hardware all the time - even though we're not being allowed to run the resolve code!

So... They've not just tied a very ordinary implementation of AA to their h/w, but they've done it in a way which ends up slowing our hardware down (because we're forced to write useless depth values to alpha most of the time...)!"

See all of the dirt being dished right here.

Super Talent announces first USB 3.0 flash drives

Recent events may have delayed the mainstream uptake of USB 3.0 devices for another year or so, but that doesn't seem to have stopped Super Talent, who have now announced a series of USB 3.0-based flash drives designed to take advantage of the additional bandwidth afforded the new interface.

Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced the new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 RAIDDrive, which supports transfer speeds up to ten times faster than USB 2.0 drives. The new drive, in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities, is fully backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports, but operates at slower speeds.

The USB 3.0 RAIDDrive uses patented “multiple pairs of differential serial data lines technologyâ€‌ for optimal NAND flash performance. “This product underscores Super Talent’s continued leadership in USB drives.â€‌ said Super Talent COO, C.H. Lee. “We’ve developed the world’s first mobile USB 3.0 flash drive. It delivers phenomenal performance and it incorporates our own patented technologyâ€‌.
