Sapphire HD 4670 Ultimate Radeon Pictured
Sapphire looks to continue bringing out new graphics cards based on the Radeon HD 4670, to cater to the sub-$100 segment, this time with the Ultimate Radeon HD 4670. This one is Sapphire's silent-cooled card that takes advantage of the RV730 core and its favourable thermal properties. The card uses a blue PCB that draws all its power from the PCI-Express interface.
The cooler consists of a central GPU block that doubles up as a heatsink. From this block, arise two heatpipes that convey heat to an aluminum fin array that extends to the back of the card. The card features 512 MB of memory across a 128-bit GDDR3 bus. Outputs provided include an HDMI connector along with DVI-D and D-Sub connectors. There are no CrossFire bridge connectors on the PCB, leaving the option of internal-CrossFire. The card is said to use reference AMD clock speeds. It is priced at 73آ€.

New Windows Worm-Attack Most Severe in Recent Times
Some of the most severe worm attacks in memory include the infamous w32.nimda, w32.sasser and w32.blaster: all pieces of software affecting Windows PCs, and their ever-fragile defenses against new-forms of malware. Enter Downadup aka Conficker worm. This worm targets Windows PCs and servers. Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer at anti-virus firm F-Secure points out to the possibility of this new worm originating from Ukraine, after the security software firm reverse-engineered the virus. It is said to have a unique "phone back home" property that makes it potentially dangerous to let stay on an infected machine, as it could steal and send back vital/confidential data. The worm transmits itself across local networks and the wide-area networks over internet, scanning for and infecting as many machines as it finds. Microsoft on its part had dispatched a security update for all its current Windows operating systems (MS08-067) that fixes the vulnerability the worm takes advantage of, available via Microsoft Update.
The infection rate of this worm is severe to very-severe. Corporate networks are the worst hit despite them - usually - having the best security measures in place. "On Tuesday there were 2.5 million, on Wednesday 3.5 million and today [Friday], eight million, It's getting worse, not better." said F-Secure's Hypponen. The makers of the worm have put in a great deal of work to ensure it is difficult to detect and remove. Not much more is known about the purpose of this worm, except that it steals data and replicates itself at phenomenal rates. While the worm doesn't send itself stray over the internet or by e-mail, for home and corporate networks, it immediately scans and discovers new machines to infect. The worm also has the intelligence to guess passwords for password-locked shares. The best way to counter this worm is by securing your networks, downloading and applying Microsoft's patch to all machines of the network, and setting tough, long alphanumeric passwords for your network resources such as routers and shares. Individual machines are easy to disinfect, but not large corporate networks with layers of security. The problem is for companies with thousands of infected machines, which can become re-infected from just one computer even as they are being cleared.

In Win is showing off quite a few new and interesting items. There are several new cases and hard drive enclosures. The first one does not yet have a name, but come with 11 expansion bays, has a screwless system in place for the drives, a bottom mounted PSU and is water cooling ready. In Win is one of the companies with bold case designs in many aspects. The second chassis is called the BS653. It also has a very unique outer design with up to 9 external expansion bays, removable hard drive cage and bottom mounted power supply. We got to take a look at Sennheisers newest offering: the HD800. This unit is their new flagship part and even though I am no audiophile: they sound amazing. The materials have been kept as light as possible, while the vibration of the unit has been nearly eliminated, giving you the best possible sound quality. The ear drums are not completely sealed, but give you an amazing soundstage.

CES 2009: Silverstone
There are two new cases at the Silverstone booth. The first beeing the Raven, which is their new high end enclosure. It is quite large an features clean cut, but very modern design. The interesting aspect is the mainboard placement. It fits into the case at a 90 degree angle, with the usual rear connections facing upward. the cables are then routed out the back of the chassis. The second case is from the Precision series and also features a clean look. This unit is intended for the mainsteam user. Lastly the one thing of interest is the cooling used in their demo systems. It is the Noise Limit Silentflux passive cooler. As you can see in the image, it is cooling an i7 with the help of the surrounding fans.

Razer has been talking about a wireless mouse for quite some time now. I first heard about it around 2 years ago. The company is showing off the new Mamba mouse. This unit can be charged either per USB cable or on the cradle. You may also choose to use the unit as a wired mouse or as a wireless unit. It holds a 5600 DPI sensor and the battery will last you for 14 hours of continuous gaming or around 72 hours of casual gaming. The second introduction is the Carcharias headset. It is based on the more expensive Megadolon unit, featuring the same looks and technology within the headset. Instead of the 7.1 surround sound, the Carcharias offers stereo sound instead. The Mamba mouse can be pre-ordered for 129.99 US Dollars, while the Carcharias is available now for 79.99.

Intel Postpones the Launch Schedule of Lynnfield CPUs and P55 Chipset
I'm afraid that what's to be told here, is hard to be categorized as good news. Industry observer DigiTimes reports that Intel is about to postpone the initiation of Lynnfield processors and P55 chipset. Chips based on the quad-core Lynnfield design, are supposed to bring Nehalem to more people, because they'll represent the budget line of Core i7 processors.

Intel has recently decided to postpone its next-generation mainstream CPU Lynnfield along with the P55 chipset to the end of August or the beginning of September this year, and may postpone them to an even later time depending on the market situation, according to sources at motherboard makers. Both Lynnfield and P55 were originally scheduled to launch by the end of July. The economic decline which has caused motherboard makers to suffer overstocked chipset inventory is the major reason for the pull back, according to the sources. After the P55 launches, Intel plans to phase out non-IGP P45 and P43 chipsets and will transition its 4-series IGP chipsets to the entry-level.

Gigabyte's AMD 790X-Based MA790X-UD4 Pictured, Detailed
Gigabyte has a complete range of AM2+/AM2 socket-based motherboard range lined up for launch, based on the company's Ultra-Durable 3 construction. Among its range, Gigabyte has resurrected the AMD 790X chipset and given it a go with in its upcoming GA-MA790X-UD4 motherboard. The AMD 790X is a scaled-down version of the AMD 790FX, based on the RD780 core. While lacking integrated graphics, it provides ATI CrossFireX support, with a maximum of 16 PCI-Express 2.0 lanes to spare for graphics, which usually split into electrically dual PCI-Express 2.0 x8 when used with CrossFire setups. The 790X chipset was largely unpopular when it launched along with the 790FX and 770. It couldn't stand firm as the middle-ground between performance and value. This, along with competition from NVIDIA's nForce 750a SLI forced AMD to work on the 790GX chipset that offers all the features of the 790X, plus the integrated graphics.
In Gigabyte's latest work, the 790X is accompanied by the overclocker-friendly SB750 southbridge chip. The motherboard supports all AM2/AM2+ processors including the latest AM2+ Phenom II series. It advertises DDR2-1200 as its memory standard. In the mix, are two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots that operate electrically (x8, x8) in CrossFire, a high-grade onboard audio CODEC, Firewire, and a single gigabit Ethernet connection. It is expected to release in February, with a price-tag of 135آ€.
